Bhopal, April 11 (NationPress) The family of Saurabh Sharma, a former Constable of the Madhya Pradesh Transport Department, was granted bail on Friday by a court in Bhopal concerning a case of disproportionate assets.

The court allowed bail to his mother, wife, cousin, and brother-in-law, each on a personal bond of Rs 10 lakh.

However, the court has yet to make a decision regarding Saurabh Sharma's bail application, as he remains in judicial custody.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has interrogated Saurabh Sharma extensively and has seized assets totaling Rs 100.36 crore so far.

According to his lawyer, Rakesh Parashar, the bail was granted by the Special PMLA court in Bhopal.

Meanwhile, no hearing has been conducted for Saurabh Sharma's bail request.

"Bail was granted upon submission of personal bonds amounting to Rs 10 lakh by the court of Special Judge Ashutosh Shukla," the advocate stated.

There was no review on Saurabh Sharma's bail plea on Friday.

The ED apprehended the family members of the former Constable under the PMLA violations.

During this process, they faced prolonged questioning.

The ED has currently seized and confiscated a cumulative amount of Rs 100.36 crore in this investigation.

A formal statement concerning this matter was released.

On April 9, the ED lodged a prosecution complaint in court against Saurabh Sharma and others involved.

Saurabh Sharma and others are under investigation for corruption by various agencies, including Lokayukta, ED, Central Bureau of Investigation, Income Tax, and Madhya Pradesh Police.

His lawyer mentioned that a new bail application would be submitted for Saurabh Sharma and others.

Saurabh Sharma was appointed on October 29, 2016, and chose to retire voluntarily on June 9, 2023.

His appointment caused a significant stir in the state Assembly during the recent Budget session.

Subsequently, the state police initiated a case against Saurabh Sharma and his mother for submitting a 'false affidavit', claiming that no family member was employed in government roles to obtain a government job on compensatory grounds following his father’s death.

In reality, his elder brother, Sachin Sharma, was already employed by the Chhattisgarh government, a detail he intentionally concealed during his appointment.
