SDPO Arindam Adhikari reported that the bus struck a motorcycle head-on on the Balughata-Kukrahati route.
“Three family members traveling on the motorcycle lost their lives in the crash. Additionally, ten bus passengers sustained serious injuries,” he added.
SDPO Arindam Adhikari mentioned that five of the injured are in critical condition and have been referred to Tamluk for advanced treatment, while the other five remain hospitalized at the Haldia Sub-Divisional Hospital.
“An inquiry into the incident has been initiated,” he confirmed.
Witnesses reported that the passenger bus was en route to Kukrahati when the driver allegedly lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off course.
“The bus then collided head-on with the motorcycle and continued to drag it against a concrete pillar of a nearby water pipeline,” they recounted.
This resulted in no chance for the motorcycle riders to survive.
“All three perished immediately at the scene. The bus passengers also faced severe consequences,” a local resident remarked.
As a result of the violent impact with the wall, the front section of the bus was thoroughly wrecked.
Local inhabitants rushed to the crash site upon hearing the deafening noise and were the first to assist in rescue operations. Many of the injured were swiftly taken to medical facilities in auto-rickshaws.
This incident also led to significant traffic congestion in the vicinity, causing vehicles to crawl.
