Kolkata, Nov 5 (NationPress) In a deeply troubling event, a father left his 10-year-old son at the India-Bangladesh border after a confrontation with his wife, as reported by the police on Wednesday.
This distressing incident unfolded at the Basirhat border in the North 24 Parganas district on Tuesday night.
Once abandoned by his father in an unfamiliar area, the young boy was left frightened and alone, crying out in panic. Moved by his situation, local residents came to his aid and alerted the authorities.
Officers from the Basirhat Police Station took the boy into their care and began reaching out to his family.
The child is originally from the Kathpol area of Ashoknagar police station in North 24 Parganas district.
Reports indicate that his father, Pintu Ghosh, and mother, Madhavi Ghosh, frequently quarreled over various issues. Following a recent heated argument, the mother left the boy with his paternal grandparents and returned to her father's house.
On the night of the incident, Pintu Ghosh attempted to deliver his son back to his mother. However, she refused to take him in, prompting the father to make the heartbreaking decision to abandon him at the border.
Pintu took the child's bag and, after placing him on his motorbike, drove towards the border in the Basirhat area.
According to police reports, Pintu instructed his son to dismount near the border before turning the bike around and leaving him alone in the darkness.
In that cold and eerie night, miles away from home, the boy stood shivering in fear and confusion.
Upon hearing the child's cries, local residents rushed to his side, offering comfort and notifying the Basirhat police station. They also provided the boy with food.
Later, he recounted his experience to the police and provided them with his home address.
The police assured the terrified child they would ensure his safe return home and contacted his parents.
"The boy has returned home. His parents have been notified and are receiving counseling for their irresponsible actions," stated a senior officer from Basirhat district police.
