FIR Against Nunhems India for Selling Inferior Seeds After Madhya Pradesh Farmers Face Losses
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) An FIR has been lodged against Nunhems India Private Limited, a company based in Telangana, following directives from Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. This action comes after farmers from the Dhar and Khargone districts of Madhya Pradesh reported significant losses attributed to inferior quality bitter gourd seeds and saplings, as stated in an official release on Friday.
The affected farmers met with the Union Minister and expressed their distress over the substantial financial losses incurred. Chouhan described this situation as a direct assault on the livelihoods of farmers and promptly instructed officials to accelerate the compensation process for those impacted while also initiating stringent legal measures against the company.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, the action was triggered by a complaint lodged by farmers on February 17, 2026, after their crops produced small, yellow fruits that fell off prematurely, resulting in a drastic decline in yield.
"Initial investigations reveal that substandard seeds and saplings were marketed to farmers under the false pretense of being certified products, leading to considerable economic losses," the statement highlighted.
Additionally, the Ministry has issued a directive to prohibit the sale of the inferior bitter gourd seed variety known as "Rubasta".
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan asserted, "We will not tolerate injustice, negligence, or fraud against farmers under any circumstances; the government stands resolutely with the affected farmers."
The Union Minister has consistently stressed the need for a swift resolution to farmers' complaints, stringent action against substandard and counterfeit agricultural products, and ensuring genuine relief for farmers. He reiterated that those who compromise the quality of seeds and agricultural inputs, thereby endangering farmers' hard work and future, will face severe consequences.
