Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 10 (NationPress) During the Lok Sabha session on Tuesday, significant interruptions occurred as Opposition members shouted slogans while Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, addressed queries regarding farming and agricultural policies.
Shortly after the session commenced, numerous Opposition MPs moved into the Well of the House, vocally protesting allegations of electoral fraud. Despite multiple requests from Sandhya Ray, who was overseeing the proceedings, the noise persisted.
In the midst of the chaos, Chouhan admonished the Opposition for their disturbances during what he deemed a crucial conversation about farmers' matters.
"These are issues concerning farmers. Why are they unwilling to engage?" he queried.
Chouhan condemned the Opposition's actions in the House, stating, "The nation will not pardon them for this."
While responding, the Agriculture Minister also criticized the Trinamool Congress administration in West Bengal, accusing them of failing to implement the PM Kisan Bima Yojana within the state.
"What kind of despicable politics is this? They seem to think that if farmers are suffering, they should just let them perish. How can they justify this?" Chouhan asked while addressing the assembly.
He also emphasized India's agricultural achievements, mentioning that the country had reached a significant landmark in rice production.
"These individuals (Opposition) may not be able to accept it, but India has claimed the top position in rice production with an output of 15 crore tonnes. We have surpassed China. India is at the forefront, not just in rice and wheat, but also in mustard, soybean, and peanuts. Our production levels are unprecedented. They will continue to criticize us, but globally, we are being celebrated," Chouhan asserted, targeting the opposition members.
Meanwhile, Opposition MPs persisted in displaying placards and chanting slogans from the Well of the House, disregarding repeated calls from the Chair for order.
"There are numerous vital issues and queries for farmers. The public and farming community deserve answers. Yet, they seem intent on preventing the nation from being informed. I denounce this type of politics from the Opposition," Chouhan stated.
As the uproar continued, the House was momentarily suspended until noon.
