Images from the scene depicted thick smoke rising from the market as flames consumed several stalls and shops. The rapid spread of the fire was attributed to the flammable materials commonly used in the handicraft products and the structure of the shops.
Preliminary reports suggest that around 50 shops were destroyed in the fire, resulting in substantial losses for the shopkeepers and artisans operating in the market.
Earlier in the week, a massive fire occurred near the Matiala fish market in Delhi, devastating hundreds of slums and creating panic among locals. This fire engulfed nearly 300 to 400 slums, displacing many families and prompting urgent requests for government assistance.
Officials indicated that this fire broke out around 11:53 p.m. and rapidly spread through the densely populated area. The Delhi Fire Service received the emergency call at approximately 11:50 p.m., which led to the deployment of multiple fire tenders to combat the flames.
A total of 24 fire tenders, along with senior fire officials, were mobilized to handle the situation, which was categorized as a medium-level fire. Firefighters worked tirelessly for several hours before successfully bringing the situation under control by around 4:00 a.m.. Cooling operations were subsequently initiated to prevent the fire from reigniting and to ensure the safety of nearby residents.
