Valsad (Gujarat), Feb 7 (NationPress) The fishermen community primarily resides in villages along the 70-km stretch of Valsad district's coastline in Gujarat. The ocean serves as their sole means of income. The Modi administration has implemented various initiatives aimed at enhancing the livelihoods of fishermen who depend on fishing for survival, resulting in significant improvements over the past decade.

A distinct ministry for fishermen has also been established by the central government.

Subsidies on boats, fishing nets, ice boxes, and diesel are now being provided to fishermen, greatly benefiting their lives. Consequently, the standard of living for coastal villagers in Valsad has improved.

In an interview with IANS on Friday, Ashok Narayan Bhai Tandel stated, “We earn our living through fishing. This trade has been passed down through generations and continues today. The Modi government has provided us with substantial assistance. They have offered subsidies for all necessary equipment, and our lives have changed dramatically. Our village is located right by the sea, and flooding during the rainy season used to pose a threat, but the installation of a protective wall has safeguarded us. Since the Modi government took charge, we are exceedingly happy. We are immensely grateful to PM Modi.”

When asked about the government's initiatives for fishermen, Jitendra Kantilal Tandel, a fisherman and social worker from Kolak in Valsad district, remarked, “The government has introduced numerous programs for fishermen. Many initiatives were initiated when Narendra Modi was Gujarat's Chief Minister. Following his elevation to Prime Minister, a dedicated ministry for fishermen was formed. Under this ministry, PM Modi has rolled out multiple schemes. Previously, fishermen were eligible for loans up to Rs 3 lakh; this limit has now been raised to Rs 5 lakh. Fishing requires a boat, and a 50 percent subsidy is provided on them. The government is making significant efforts for fishermen, for which I extend my heartfelt thanks to PM Modi and the central government.”

Ramesh Tandel commented, “Those residing along the coast engage in fishing as their business. The government has accomplished remarkable work for fishermen. Numerous schemes have been launched, and subsidies are being provided by the government. Subsidies are also available for fishing nets. The government's efforts in providing these subsidies have greatly enhanced our lives.”
