Puri, March 9 (NationPress) The Sports Authority of India (SAI) in collaboration with the Odisha Sports and Youth Services Department will host the Fit India Carnival–2026 in the Puri district from March 15 to 17, as per an official announcement made on Monday.
The objective of this three-day event is to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle among citizens, aligning with the Fit India Mission initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Preparations for the carnival were discussed during a meeting chaired by Odisha Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj at the SAI's regional office in Kolkata.
The Minister assessed the readiness and deliberated on strategies to ensure the event runs smoothly.
Officials indicated that the carnival will engage participants from various groups, including youth, women, senior citizens, volunteers from the National Cadet Corps and the National Service Scheme, members of self-help groups, and individuals from diverse communities throughout the state.
Numerous fitness and recreational activities are planned for the three-day extravaganza.
Morning sessions on Puri's beach will feature yoga, pranayama, walkathons, marathons, and sporting events like athletics, football, Zumba, aerobics, and volleyball.
Additionally, attractions such as a Kids' Zone and a Women's Wellness Zone will be available.
An AYUSH Wellness Centre and group meditation sessions will also be organized to foster both physical and mental health.
Evening sessions will showcase cultural and fitness-related programs, including traditional performances like Gotipua dance and Mallakhamb.
The carnival will also feature a fitness fashion walk, cultural showcases, and an open mic for participants to share their fitness journeys.
During the review meeting, Minister Suraj emphasized that this is the first time the Fit India Carnival is being held in Odisha, aiming to highlight the state's rich artistic and cultural heritage while promoting fitness.
He expressed optimism that residents of Puri and other regions of the state would actively engage and contribute to the event's success.
While in Kolkata, the Minister also discussed enhancing sports infrastructure in Odisha with SAI officials and interacted with athletes at the regional office.
