Gurugram, April 27 (NationPress) To enhance the security of women within the city, the Gurugram police apprehended five offenders under the 'Safe City Campaign' at various public locations on Sunday.

As directed by Shatrujeet Kapoor, the Haryana Director General of Police (DGP), this initiative aims to bolster women's safety, operating under the supervision of Vikas Arora, the Commissioner of Police in Gurugram.

The Durga Shakti Police Team from the Women Police Station (West) took action against the five offenders.

The individuals were identified as Pushpender, Hitesh, Pankaj, Rohit, and Sagar, all from the Gurugram Bus Stand. Preventive measures were enacted against them in accordance with established regulations.

According to a spokesperson from Gurugram police, "The family members of the offenders were summoned to the police station. In their presence, written apologies were obtained, and the offenders were returned to their families after being warned against repeating such behaviors in the future."

As part of this campaign, Gurugram police assign female officers in civilian attire to designated areas to enhance women's safety and catch criminals in the act.

These undercover female officers swiftly address any misconduct by offenders, detaining them on-the-spot and escorting them to the relevant police station, where their families are also informed, and preventive action is taken as per regulations, the spokesperson elaborated.

The campaign involved various teams visiting public areas such as schools, colleges, bus terminals, and train stations, successfully apprehending individuals involved in crimes against women, including harassment.

The Haryana government has set up women police stations across all districts to ensure women's safety and provide a secure venue for lodging complaints.

However, it was noted that many women were reluctant to report incidents involving such antisocial behavior.

Thus, this campaign was initiated after pinpointing locations where these antisocial elements engaged in harassment, inappropriate comments, stalking, and similar activities.

"Gurugram Police remains committed to ensuring women's safety. The efforts to apprehend offenders will persist, guaranteeing a secure environment for women," the spokesperson concluded.
