Kolkata, May 12 (NationPress) Four illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh were apprehended by West Bengal law enforcement on Monday close to the international borders between India and Bangladesh in the Nadia district, as reported by an official.
Upon interrogation, authorities from the Nadia district police discovered that the four individuals, which included two women and one man, had unlawfully crossed into India nearly a year ago with assistance from local Indian agents operating within Nadia district.
According to a source within the Nadia district police, the group later dispersed to various regions across the country, seeking to make a living through various odd jobs. However, due to recent initiatives by state administrations targeting illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators, the four individuals decided to return to Hanskhali in Nadia district to seize the first opportunity to go back to Bangladesh.
On Monday, local residents reported seeing them behaving suspiciously near the international borders in Hanskhali. The villagers alerted local police, who promptly arrived at the scene and took them into custody.
During questioning, they confessed to entering India through the same borders in Hanskhali a year ago, and this time they intended to return to Bangladesh.
Subsequently, they were brought before a district court in Nadia, which ordered their remand into police custody. “Further interrogation will be conducted to ascertain any connections with banned extremist groups in Bangladesh that have been known to operate in neighboring districts to establish sleeper cells,” stated an official.
Nadia has frequently been in the news over the past year due to the apprehension of illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators, particularly given the highly porous nature of the borders in certain areas.
Recently, the district has also made headlines for dismantling networks involved in producing counterfeit Indian identity documents, including Indian passports, for illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators.
