4 killed as car plunges into ditch on NH-148 in Rajasthan
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Four people died and two others sustained serious injuries after a car veered off Rajasthan's Dausa-Manoharpur National Highway (NH-148) and fell into a deep roadside ditch near Raisar in the early hours of Friday, 23 October 2026. All six occupants were pilgrims from Agra returning after visiting the Khatu Shyamji temple.
How the Accident Unfolded
The crash occurred at approximately 6 am, when a tyre burst caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The car, travelling within the limits of the Raisar police station jurisdiction, plunged into the deep ditch alongside the highway. Local residents assisted police teams in pulling survivors from the wreckage.
The injured were transported to hospital by ambulance, while the bodies of the deceased were shifted to the mortuary of a government hospital. A crane was later deployed to remove the damaged vehicle from the ditch.
The Victims
The four deceased have been identified as Atul, Mukul, Rupesh, and Shiva, all residents of Agra. The two survivors, Rahul and Arpit, sustained serious injuries and were admitted to a private hospital for treatment, according to officials.
Raisar Station House Officer Rajpal Singh confirmed the tyre burst as the direct cause of the accident.
Traffic Disruption on NH-148
The crash triggered a traffic jam on the Dausa-Manoharpur National Highway, with long queues of vehicles forming on both sides of the road. Commuters faced disruption for nearly an hour before police personnel managed to restore traffic movement following the removal of the wrecked car.
Second Accident in Dausa District
In a separate incident in Dausa district on the same morning, a loading tempo travelling from Delhi to Kota overturned into a roadside ditch after veering off the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, leaving five people injured. According to police, the driver, identified as Vijaypal, reportedly dozed off at the wheel.
The other injured — Noorjahan, Zyakat Ali, Kunal, and Ajay — are all residents of Kota and work in setting up amusement rides at fairs. All five were taken to Dausa District Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
The twin accidents highlight persistent road-safety concerns on Rajasthan's national highway network, particularly during early-morning hours when fatigue and poor visibility raise crash risk.
