Four Schoolgirls Tragically Killed as Cement Truck Overturns

Palakkad, Dec 12 (NationPress) In a heartbreaking incident, four schoolgirls, who were in Class 8, tragically lost their lives when a speeding lorry loaded with cement bags overturned onto them on Thursday in Kalladikode on the Kozhikode-Palakkad National Highway.
The girls were walking on the pavement after school when they became trapped beneath the lorry around 4:15 p.m.
The victims were identified as Irfana, Midha, Reedha, and Ayisha.
One of their classmates was fortunate enough to escape without injury, managing to move out of the way just in time, while the other four were trapped underneath the lorry.
Komalakumari, a local Panchayat member, reported that the accident occurred near the Karimbu Higher Secondary School, where the girls were students.
The driver of the rescue vehicle commented that the girls had all become trapped under the lorry that had lost control and toppled over.
Santhakumari, the local legislator, expressed her condolences upon hearing about the accident and stated that she was en route to the scene.
"The Fire Force and the Police have been working to lift the cement-laden lorry that overturned," Santhakumari added.
An eyewitness noted that the lorry was traveling at a high speed, and the incident happened in an area known for frequent accidents.
"Five students were walking back from school to their homes when this tragic event occurred," the eyewitness said.
The lorry driver and his assistant were also injured, but their injuries were reported to be minor and they are receiving treatment.
In response to the incident, frustrated locals blocked the main road at the accident site.
Numerous cement bags were scattered at the scene.
