Betul, Sep 20 (NationPress) A tragic incident unfolded near the Temni Khurd village on the highway in Madhya Pradesh's Betul district late Friday evening, resulting in the death of four seers and leaving three others in serious condition.
The group of seven spiritual travelers from Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh was returning from a pilgrimage visit to the esteemed Balajipuram temple in Betul when they encountered disaster.
While traveling, their Bolero vehicle experienced a sudden rear tyre burst, causing it to veer off the roadway and plunge into a deep roadside well.
Eyewitness accounts revealed scenes of chaos and urgency as local villagers rushed to the scene even before emergency responders could arrive.
Using ropes and immense resolve, the villagers were able to rescue three of the seers from the waterlogged vehicle.
Unfortunately, four seers remained trapped within the submerged Bolero, prompting a comprehensive rescue operation by police and SDRF teams that persisted late into the night.
The deceased were identified as Kallu alias Laxmi Giri (24), Malkhan Giri (65), Rakesh Giri (35), and Gulab Giri (40).
Their bodies were retrieved after hours of relentless search efforts.
The survivors, Makhanju Giri (27), Shivpujan Giri (60), and the driver, Rakesh Giri (32), were immediately transported to Chhindwara District Hospital and are presently receiving medical care.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, R.P. Choubey, confirmed that the tyre burst was indeed the cause of the accident and praised the villagers for their rapid response.
He emphasized the prompt actions of the police and SDRF teams in recovering the victims and providing medical assistance to the injured.
This incident has cast a shadow of sorrow over the local community, raising significant concerns regarding road safety on the Betul Highway.
The presence of deep, unguarded wells near the roadside has long posed a danger, prompting residents to call for immediate measures from authorities to avert future tragedies.
A similar accident occurred recently near Mandsaur town, claiming 12 lives when a vehicle plunged into a well.
