Bhopal, Feb 17 (NationPress) Three individuals lost their lives and five others sustained injuries when a vehicle transporting them fell into a 40-foot gorge on the Kaimur hills, commonly referred to as Mooda Pahad, in the Amilia Police station area of Sidhi district, Madhya Pradesh.
While initial reports suggested four deaths, police later confirmed that three were deceased.
The unfortunate victims, all friends hailing from different villages in Sidhi district, were traveling together in the vehicle. Amilia Police Station in-charge Rajesh Pandey informed IANS via telephone that two individuals passed away at the scene. The deceased have been identified as Pramod Yadav, Sonu Sahu, and Ramakant Sahu. The injured, including Neeraj Vaish, Krishna Vaish, Pradeep Sahu, Sujeet Yadav, and Krishna Sahu, were all aged between 22 and 30 years. Pradeep Sahu was driving the vehicle.
The driver reportedly lost control while attempting to navigate around another vehicle, causing their vehicle to tumble into the steep gorge of the Kaimur hills. A nearby tractor driver, noticing the incident, promptly alerted the police.
“We arrived at the scene within half an hour and rescued the victims. Unfortunately, two pilgrims died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries at the hospital,” stated the police officer.
According to other reports, the situation could have been significantly worse if the vehicle had not become lodged in trees, halting its descent at approximately 12 feet.
The injured were initially treated at Amilia Hospital before being transferred to Sidhi District Hospital.
Sources indicated that most of the injured had suffered fractures and were subsequently referred to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa.
Meanwhile, the roads from Madhya Pradesh to Prayagraj are heavily congested due to the ongoing Kumbh Mela, complicating travel for both pilgrims and emergency responders.
