New Delhi, Jan 27 (NationPress) In an extraordinary initiative for the pilgrims visiting the grand Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, a dedicated camp named 'Netra Mahakumbh' has been established to offer complimentary eye checkups, spectacles, and medications.

This camp, which has been operational since January 13, also provides free eye surgeries for those in need, while raising awareness about eye donation.

The camp, backed by organizations such as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Saksham Foundation, and other community groups, is assisting thousands of pilgrims each day.

As per Satyavijay Singh, the service head of RSS's Kashi region, the Maha Kumbh occurs every 12 years, and this year, the Netra Mahakumbh aims to offer free eye care services to approximately five lakh individuals, which includes free eye checkups for three lakh people and the distribution of spectacles and medicines.

Furthermore, free eye surgeries are conducted for those who require them. The camp is organized in collaboration with various social organizations, including the Saksham Foundation, which is focused on empowering differently-abled individuals.

Rajesh Pratap, the publicity head of RSS Uttar Pradesh, noted that hundreds of devotees visit the camp daily for eye checkups. Patients are directed to the OPD (Outpatient Department) where a team of 40 doctors assesses them.

Over 100 medical staff are available to assist. If a patient needs medication, it is supplied; if spectacles are required, they are distributed free of charge. If further treatment or surgery is necessary, patients are referred to a hospital where their care is also provided at no cost.

Each patient receives three cards: one for themselves, one for the hospital, and one for the organization’s records.

Shanti Bhushan Mishra from Prayagraj commended the camp, referring to it as an exceptional initiative. Nimesh Pandey, who traveled from Hardoi, expressed gratitude, stating, "This is a wonderful initiative, aiding hundreds of people."

Saurabh Shukla, another devotee, shared, "I came here for an eye checkup, but I also plan to donate my eyes."

The Netra Mahakumbh is not only delivering essential healthcare but also nurturing a sense of social responsibility and compassion among pilgrims, making it a vital aspect of this year’s Maha Kumbh celebrations.
