Mumbai, July 30 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, remarked that the tribal-dominated Gadchiroli district has set a remarkable precedent for the state by achieving record-breaking water storage in a remarkably short timeframe.

This district has seen extraordinary advancements in water conservation through the Silt-Free Dam Silt-Free Shivar Abhiyan. Despite the monsoon commencing 20 days earlier this year, which shortened the timeline for work, the Chief Minister noted that the district has excelled in creating a record volume of water storage thanks to the efficient collaboration and unwavering efforts of the district administration.

The Chief Minister, upon evaluating the water storage situation in Gadchiroli, commended this achievement, stating that the district's success in water conservation serves as an inspiration for all of Maharashtra. This marks a significant stride towards water security in rural regions.

“In Gadchiroli district, water reservoirs have been established in 97 villages, leading to the creation of a water storage capacity of 64.5 crore liters for the year 2025-26. This ensures that thousands of citizens have access to water. Notably, this year alone, 6,44,601 cubic meters of silt were removed, which is eight times greater than the combined total of the previous two years. Numerous social organizations and associations have also played crucial roles in these efforts,” the Chief Minister stated.

He emphasized that the district administration, particularly the Gadchiroli District Collector, has been instrumental in this success.

“The achievement of Gadchiroli clearly demonstrates that when the district administration, Gram Panchayat, local bodies, and the public unite, no goal is unachievable. Gadchiroli has illustrated that a significant advance in water security can be made through a well-structured approach and expert guidance. Following the study of this successful model, similar initiatives will be rolled out across the state,” he added.

He expressed confidence that water conservation will bring stability to agriculture, life, and the environment.

On July 23, Fadnavis initiated and inaugurated several projects, in addition to launching a plantation drive in Gadchiroli. He planted a sapling in the district, symbolizing the start of 'Harit Maharashtra, Samruddha Maharashtra', a campaign aimed at planting 1 crore trees.

“This initiative transcends mere planting; it represents a commitment to safeguarding nature while promoting sustainable development. Gadchiroli, with its lush forest cover, plays a vital role in maintaining Maharashtra’s ecological balance. Between 2014 and 2019, 50 crore trees were planted statewide,” he remarked.
