Key Takeaways
Indore, March 11 (NationPress) The Madhya Pradesh Police announced on Wednesday that they have dismantled a significant gambling ring operating out of a farmhouse situated under the jurisdiction of the Manpur police station in Mhow, Indore district, resulting in the arrest of approximately 18 individuals and the confiscation of a substantial sum of money.
Authorities indicated that they received a tip-off regarding extensive gambling activities occurring at the Kothi Niwas farmhouse located in Ambalipura village. Acting on this information, police executed a raid in the early hours of Wednesday.
Manpur SHO Lokendra Hiror confirmed to IANS that at least 18 gamblers were apprehended on-site, although some managed to flee under the cover of darkness. The operation yielded over Rs 1.36 lakh in cash, along with playing cards and multiple mobile phones.
It is important to note that the farmhouse is owned by a senior IAS officer, Vandana Vaidya, who currently holds the position of Managing Director of the Finance Development Corporation for the state government in the Indore district.
According to Hiror, when the police arrived at the farmhouse, they found the main entrance locked from the outside, but sounds could be heard coming from within. The police then opted to enter through the back of the property.
“The area was secured, and we apprehended 18 suspects at the scene. However, some individuals took advantage of the darkness to escape. A significant amount of cash and other items were retrieved from those arrested, and efforts to locate the absconders are ongoing,” Hiror added.
The police revealed that preliminary investigations suggest the farmhouse's owner, IAS officer Vandana Vaidya, had appointed a caretaker, Arun, a local resident, to oversee the property. A search is now underway to apprehend the caretaker.
Attempts by IANS to reach Vandana Vaidya via phone went unanswered before the publication of this report.
