Bhopal, March 10 (NationPress) An official reported on Monday that after a stone-pelting incident and subsequent violence involving several miscreants in Madhya Pradesh’s Mhow (Ambedkar Nagar), the situation is currently stabilized.
According to the official, 12 suspects have been apprehended thus far while FIRs have been registered against thirteen individuals.
“Extensive security measures have been enforced to maintain safety,” the official stated.
In a conversation with IANS, DIG (Deputy Inspector General) Indore Nimish Agrawal confirmed that FIRs have been filed against 13 individuals, with 12 arrests made, and some may face action under the National Security Act (NSA).
“A strict watch is being kept in the town. No one is permitted to form unlawful assemblies,” the officer added.
Group clashes erupted on Sunday night shortly after India secured victory in the Champions Trophy, prompting residents in Mhow to hold a celebratory rally. Suddenly, stones began to rain down on the rally, resulting in communal clashes near the Jama Masjid area.
When inquired about the exact cause of the stone-pelting, the senior police officer clarified that it originated near a mosque, where participants of the celebratory rally clashed with another faction, leading to a physical confrontation.
Preliminary reports indicate that the rally, originating from different neighborhoods, had disputes regarding firecracker celebrations. The ongoing investigation will clarify the parties responsible.
Authorities are taking decisive action against those accountable for the disturbances. A comprehensive investigation is in progress, and no offenders will be excused. Strict measures are being implemented against the culprits, the police officer stated.
Upon receiving reports of the incident, Indore Collector Ashish Singh and senior police officials, including Nimish Agarwal, quickly arrived in Mhow and remained on-site late into the night to manage the situation.
The police documented five distinct incidents of violence across various areas of the town, with three cars and several two-wheelers vandalized and set ablaze.
Collector Ashish Singh announced that thirteen individuals have been arrested for arson and violence, and the situation in Mhow is now under control.
Additional FIRs will be lodged based on witness accounts, and some related videos have emerged, noted the senior police officer.
The DIG assured that peace has been reinstated in the area, and stringent action will be pursued against those responsible for the violence.
