Bhopal, March 13 (NationPress) Despite a significant police presence in the violence-affected town of Mhow in Madhya Pradesh, unknown assailants set fire to a warehouse in the Koyla Bakhal area in the early hours of Thursday, officials reported.

The warehouse, owned by businessman Sandeep Chauhan, reportedly contained stocks of pan masala and cosmetic products.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident.

Deputy Inspector General (Indore) Nimish Agrawal confirmed the incident and stated that no assailants would be overlooked.

He added that police would assess the type of materials stored in the warehouse.

Sandeep mentioned that goods worth millions of rupees were lost in the fire.

He also clarified that the warehouse had been without a power supply for several years, thus eliminating the possibility of an electrical failure.

Following recent riot-like events on Sunday, nearly 1,000 police officers, including members of the Rapid Action Force (RAF), have been deployed to ensure law and order in the town, according to the chief police officer.

As of now, 14 individuals have been arrested in relation to Sunday’s violent altercations.

The top police official assured citizens that extensive measures have been put in place to maintain peace during the upcoming Holi celebrations from March 13-15, with reports indicating that "Holika Dahan" rituals will occur at 20 different sites.

Drones are being utilized to monitor sensitive regions, the officer noted.

The disturbances initially erupted on Sunday night when a celebratory rally, following India’s victory in the Champions Trophy, faced stone pelting near Jama Masjid, which escalated into communal violence.

On Wednesday evening, police conducted a flag march through critical areas, including Mhow, Patti Bazar, and Kotwali, as part of their strategy to prevent further unrest, the officer added.

Additional search operations and security checkpoints have also been established in high-risk areas.

Meanwhile, local MLA Usha Thakur demanded that Chief Minister Mohan Yadav hold the vandals accountable for the damage incurred on Sunday, which included the destruction of over 10 vehicles and the burning of four shops.

She urged the district administration to recover compensation from the detained individuals and provide it to those affected.

Thakur described the events as part of a premeditated conspiracy.

Mhow, also referred to as Ambedkar Nagar, is located nearly 25 km from Indore.
