Belagavi, Jan 17 (NationPress) The Congress Karnataka in-charge, Randeep Singh Surjewala, announced on Friday that prominent party figures Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Mallikarjun Kharge are set to arrive in Belagavi on January 21 to partake in the 'Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan' convention.

Surjewala shared this information while addressing reporters after his arrival in Belagavi for an initial gathering of the 'Gandhi Bharat' event.

The Congress party is organizing the 'Gandhi Bharat' event to honor the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi assuming the role of AICC President. This event was postponed due to the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

“On January 21, we will host the 'Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan' convention in Belagavi. National leaders from the Congress, including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Priyanka Gandhi, will participate in this rescheduled program,” he mentioned.

Critiquing the BJP, Surjewala remarked, “Union Home Minister Amit Shah has not only disrespected B. R. Ambedkar in Parliament but has also mocked those who adhere to Ambedkar's philosophies.”

The convention aims to reinforce the principles of Mahatma Gandhi and Ambedkar, highlighting its significance in Belagavi.

Additionally, Surjewala revealed that a similar program will take place at Ambedkar's birthplace on January 27 in Madhya Pradesh.

“Currently, the rights of the underprivileged and women are being systematically stripped away. In this context, we are raising our voices from the Belagavi convention. A new direction and policy will initiate from Belagavi,” Surjewala stated.

“In 1924, Mahatma Gandhi presided over the Congress session in Belagavi. Karnataka leaders Gangadhar Deshpande and the late former PM Jawaharlal Nehru, who were then Congress General Secretaries, organized that session on an 80-acre ground. We are now convening the working committee meeting at the same location,” he added.
