Bhopal, June 11 (NationPress) A shocking incident involving the gang-rape of a minor girl at the government-run Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa has come to light, prompting the Congress party to accuse the state government of protecting the alleged perpetrators.
Reports indicate that the horrific crime took place during the night from Sunday to Monday within the hospital's premises.
The Madhya Pradesh Congress, along with former Chief Minister Kamal Nath, has expressed grave concerns regarding women’s safety, demanding accountability from the authorities.
Hospital superintendent Rahul Mishra informed the media that the incident had been reported to law enforcement, denying any involvement from hospital staff in the case.
Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, Kamal Nath took to the social media platform X, stating that the gang-rape of a minor girl in a government hospital in Rewa highlights the lack of safety for daughters in the state.
Nath described the allegations against the hospital staff as shocking and insisted that the matter must not be concealed under any circumstances.
He called for an impartial investigation to ensure the victim’s safety and to bring the offenders to justice.
The Congress party has also posed numerous questions on social media, demanding a response from State Health Minister Rajendra Shukla, who represents Rewa and is also the Deputy Chief Minister.
A senior police officer stated in a conversation with IANS that “the case is currently under investigation, and further details will be provided once inquiries conclude.”
The Congress has alleged that three outsourced employees of the hospital were involved in the crime, raising concerns over why there seem to be efforts to suppress the incident.
On its official X account, the party noted, “The superintendent of the hospital, reportedly Shukla’s nephew, has been accused of delaying police action and preventing the victim from filing an FIR.”
The party further questioned whether political interests are being prioritized over the dignity and safety of women, asking how long influential figures would continue to protect criminals.
State Congress president Jitendra (Jitu) Patwari expressed his views on X, calling the news of the gang-rape deeply unsettling.
He emphasized that “this incident once again underscores the alarming state of lawlessness in Madhya Pradesh.” In his post, he alleged that “three hospital employees were accused of raping the minor girl within the hospital corridors.
Patwari highlighted the troubling power dynamics surrounding the crime, noting that it occurred in the home district of Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, who also leads the Health Department. He pointed out that the hospital superintendent, Rahul Mishra, is reportedly Shukla’s nephew.
Patwari further stated that there are growing allegations that attempts are being made to bury the case instead of pursuing justice. He claimed that a “leaked audio recording of the victim’s father reveals disturbing pressure tactics — an attempt to summon the girl to a rest house.” Instead of ensuring justice for the victim, he argued, “the state’s leaders appear more focused on shielding the accused. He condemned the apparent failure of governance, questioning who is accountable for this unchecked impunity.
