Did Gauhati University Open Exam Form Fill-Up Right Before Tests?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, Dec 5 (NationPress) The administration of Gauhati University firmly refuted the accusations alleging that it had opened the examination form fill-up window just one day prior to the start of exams, labeling these claims as “baseless and misleading.”
The University clarified in an official statement that the window had not been reopened at the last minute but was kept available to ensure that no student faced disadvantages due to genuine issues.
In a comprehensive explanation, the university asserted that this decision was made in a “student-centric manner” to aid those who were unable to finalize the process within the original timeline.
Officials highlighted that such flexibility is crucial, considering the extensive academic operations of the University, which encompasses over 250 undergraduate and postgraduate programs across regular and arrear batches.
They acknowledged that scheduling exams for all programs within a limited timeframe is a “complex academic and administrative exercise.”
Notably, the examination calendar for this cycle was compressed from 45 days to 30 days, balancing operational needs with the broader interests of students, as stated.
In response to criticisms related to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the University stressed that it would be “incorrect” to claim that examinations represent the only objective of the framework.
The NEP emphasizes holistic learning through adequate contact hours, curriculum flexibility, and academic depth, encouraging students to explore common courses, audit classes initially, and make informed choices during registration.
With the implementation of NEP, the number of examinable courses has almost doubled due to the introduction of AEC, VAC, MDC, and SEC modules, thereby expanding both the volume and duration of examinations, necessitating a more compressed and efficiently structured schedule.
Registrar Prof. Utpal Sarma firmly rejected the notion of any administrative oversight. “We strongly deny the allegation and affirm that Gauhati University operated in the most transparent and student-friendly manner. The window was kept open not due to an oversight but as an intentional measure to ensure no student is left behind,” he stated.
He urged affiliated colleges to strictly comply with the prescribed timelines for admission, registration, and examination approvals to ensure timely declaration of results.
