Did Gaurav Gogoi Support the Ceasefire Between India and Pakistan?

New Delhi, May 11 (NationPress) Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi expressed his approval of the halt in hostilities between India and Pakistan while commending the Indian armed forces for their role in protecting India's sovereignty.

"I extend my gratitude to the Indian armed forces for their exemplary and professional efforts in defending our nation's territory and integrity. Their dedication fills us with pride. My thoughts are with the families who have endured significant hardship due to the Pahalgam attack and the cross-border firing incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the Poonch area. Pakistan has sought to propagate the two-nation theory within India, but citizens of all faiths, ethnicities, and languages have firmly rejected it, standing by the secular principles enshrined in our Constitution. Recently, Indians have displayed remarkable unity under our Tiranga, rallying behind the Prime Minister and his administration. It is important to note that the US has facilitated a funding of $2.5 billion into Pakistan's economy through the IMF and mediated a swift ceasefire between India and Pakistan. I hope that this financial aid does not end up being diverted to support terrorist organizations," he stated in a post on X.

He also reiterated the need for the International Monetary Fund's $2.5 billion assistance to Pakistan to be utilized appropriately and not misdirected towards terrorist entities.

Gogoi conveyed his solidarity with the families affected by the Pahalgam incident and the cross-border engagements in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in Poonch, while condemning Pakistan's efforts to instigate the two-nation theory.

He underscored the unity of India under the secular tenets of the Constitution and the widespread support for the Prime Minister.

On Saturday, both India and Pakistan took pivotal measures towards de-escalation to restore peace.

India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations reached out to his Indian counterpart this week, leading to an agreement to cease all military actions—on land, in the air, and at sea—starting from 1700 hrs IST.

He mentioned that directives have been issued for the enforcement of the ceasefire, with further discussions planned at the DGMO level for noon on May 12.

During a press briefing on Saturday, Foreign Secretary Misri stated, "Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) contacted the Indian DGMO at 15:35 hours earlier today, and both sides consented to halt all firing and military operations on land, in the air, and at sea effective from 1700 hours Indian Standard Time."

He added, "Today, orders have been distributed on both sides to implement this agreement. The Directors General of Military Operations will reconvene on May 12 at 1200 hours."

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar remarked, "India and Pakistan have reached a mutual understanding regarding the cessation of firing and military actions. India has consistently held a firm and unwavering position against terrorism in all its forms and will continue to do so."

Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio mentioned that both nations had consented to initiate discussions on a wide array of issues at a neutral location.
