Patna, April 7 (NationPress) As prominent Congress figure Rahul Gandhi commenced his ‘Palayan Roko, Naukri Do’ padayatra from Begusarai on Monday, Union Textile Minister and local MP Giriraj Singh characterized the visit as politically irrelevant.

Addressing the media at Patna airport, Singh mocked Gandhi’s campaign against migration, stating, “Rahul Gandhi himself frequently migrates—from Uttar Pradesh to Kerala and now to Bihar. How can such a person advocate for halting migration in the state? His visit will have no effect here.”

Singh highlighted the accomplishments of the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government, asserting that Bihar has significantly transformed since 2005 under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“From infrastructure to employment, Bihar has made remarkable strides. Eight lakh government jobs have already been created, and an additional four lakh are forthcoming. Rahul Gandhi ought to conduct his research before making grandiose statements,” he remarked.

In a critique of the Congress party’s historical promises, Singh referenced the past. “While Rahul Gandhi is in Begusarai today, it was his father, Rajiv Gandhi, who promised a petrochemical plant here back in 1985. He served as an MP twice but failed to deliver. Now, thanks to Modi, the Barauni Refinery has been upgraded at a cost of Rs 25,000 crore, leading to extensive chemical and fertilizer production in Begusarai.

Singh further accused Gandhi of opposing Hindu symbolism ideologically. “Rahul Gandhi has an aversion to saffron—that’s why his padayatra is entirely in white. Let him roam around spreading confusion. It won’t alter the reality on the ground.”

Concurrently, Gandhi, joined by Congress youth leader Kanhaiya Kumar, initiated the much-publicized padayatra amidst large crowds and enthusiastic youth involvement.

This campaign aims to highlight issues of unemployment and forced migration, serving as part of Congress's larger strategy to reclaim political strength in Bihar ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections.

After participating in the padyatra for some time, Rahul Gandhi returned to Patna to attend the Social Justice Conference and will subsequently hold organizational meetings with party workers at Sadaqat Ashram.
