Vinay Gupta, a 31-year-old software engineer employed with Adobe in Noida, was allegedly beaten to death by his wife's relatives at his residence in Nihal Vihar, outer Delhi, on 22 August. His mother and sister, speaking to reporters on Saturday, alleged the killing was pre-planned and demanded strict punishment for those responsible.

What the Family Alleges Happened

According to Gupta's mother, the incident unfolded early in the morning when her daughter-in-law allegedly summoned her brothers to the house following an argument over a matrimonial issue. 'We were preparing to serve them water, thinking that relatives had come to visit. But they did not want water. They grabbed him by his hands, choked his throat, jumped on his chest and killed him right before my eyes within five minutes,' she alleged.

The mother further claimed she was assaulted when she attempted to intervene. 'When I rushed to save him, they beat me. When his father tried to rescue him, they assaulted him as well. Everything went dark before my eyes,' she said. She also alleged that the CCTV cameras at the house had been deliberately switched off before the attack.

Sister's Account and Key Questions Raised

Gupta's sister, who was at her in-laws' home at the time, corroborated the account. She alleged that her brother's wife had a brief argument in the morning, left the house, and returned within 10 minutes with six men from her family. 'My mother was preparing to serve them water, thinking that guests had arrived. But they refused the water, grabbed my brother by his hair, choked his throat and killed him,' she alleged.

The sister raised a pointed question about the timeline: the wife's family residence was reportedly around 30 minutes away, yet the men arrived within 10 minutes — a discrepancy she cited as evidence of prior planning. 'It was completely pre-planned. Everything was orchestrated in advance,' she said.

Background and Status of the Accused

Gupta was a resident of Laxmi Park and had been married to his 31-year-old wife, a homemaker, for approximately three-and-a-half years. The couple had twin children — a son and a daughter — aged around four-and-a-half months. According to the family, six people were involved in the alleged assault, of whom four had reportedly been detained by authorities, while two remain absconding.

Gupta was rushed to a nearby hospital following the attack but was declared dead on arrival by doctors.
