Shimla, Jan 15 (NationPress) Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Wednesday highlighted the significance of addressing drug addiction through community collaboration.
"Motivated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, I launched an anti-drug initiative in Himachal Pradesh a year ago. Although progress has been gradual, the effective implementation of this sports-centric awareness program indicates positive strides," the Governor remarked while overseeing the closing ceremony of the month-long 'Khel Khilao -- Nasha Bhagao' campaign organized by Arki Welfare Society in Arki, located in Solan district.
He asserted that such efforts can only thrive when they remain free from political interference.

Expressing concern, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated last week that cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have surged by 340 percent over the past decade, increasing from around 500 cases in 2012 to 2,200 cases in 2023. Moreover, the percentage of cases involving heroin has doubled, escalating from 29 percent in 2020 to 50 percent in 2024.
CM Sukhu addressed these issues virtually at the regional conference on 'Drug Trafficking and National Security' organized by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
