New Delhi, March 25 (NationPress) Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, emphasized on Wednesday that the essence of voluntary charity is deeply embedded in the cultural fabric of India, with individuals from various backgrounds coming together to assist those in need.
During the National CSR announcement for FY 2026–27 and scholarship distribution event hosted by the Malabar Charitable Trust, Goyal remarked that while corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives have fostered engagement, surpassing obligatory mandates signifies a true dedication to societal welfare.
He commended the decision to allocate 5 percent of net profits towards CSR efforts, describing it as a remarkable move that sets a benchmark for others.
“Such initiatives illustrate that organizations can voluntarily contribute beyond the minimum requirements and significantly impact social progress,” the minister asserted.
Goyal also pointed out India’s expanding global economic footprint, noting the country’s recent signing of nine free trade agreements with 38 developed nations.
“These treaties grant Indian enterprises, farmers, MSMEs, and artisans access to a broader share of global markets at reduced or zero tariffs, enhancing export potential,” he explained.
He underlined the necessity for Indian industries to prioritize high-quality standards in their products and services to fully leverage these agreements.
“Sectors such as MSMEs, agriculture, and fisheries can reap substantial benefits by aligning with international standards,” Goyal added.
The minister also spoke about the importance of inclusive development, asserting that every individual deserves equal opportunities and access to essential services like food, housing, healthcare, education, and digital connectivity.
“The government is committed to ensuring that all citizens can contribute to the vision of a prosperous India,” he stated.
Highlighting the significance of women-led development, Goyal referenced B. R. Ambedkar’s belief that societal advancement is linked to the empowerment of women.
He mentioned that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, numerous initiatives have been launched to promote education and empowerment for women.
