Gandhinagar, April 26 (NationPress) As Gujarat endures extreme heat, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that temperatures will increase by an additional 2-3 degrees Celsius in the upcoming days, lasting until April 30.

According to the IMD report released on Saturday, Rajkot noted the highest maximum temperature at 43.0 Degrees Celsius, a remarkable 3.1 degrees above normal, while Ahmedabad closely followed with a high of 41.7 Degrees Celsius, which is 1 degree above the seasonal average.

“Bhuj recorded a high of 41.5 degrees Celsius, indicating a 2.4-degree deviation from normal, while Amreli and Deesa registered 41.1 degrees Celsius and 40.5 degrees Celsius, respectively,” stated the weather department.

The report highlighted that these temperatures indicate that the area is facing a prolonged and persistent heatwave.

The IMD anticipates further increases in temperature over the next several days.

“Although some cities like Baroda (Vadodara) experienced a slight decrease in temperature, reaching 39.4 degrees Celsius, coastal cities such as Surat benefited from their geographical position, recording 35.8 degrees Celsius,” mentioned a weather official.

He added that Baroda's residents enjoyed a bit of relief as temperatures dipped just below 40 degrees Celsius.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant due to the extended heat duration.

“Humidity levels throughout the state displayed significant variation. Coastal cities like Veraval (90 percent), Dwarka (88 percent), and Diu (84 percent) experienced high morning humidity, resulting in discomfort,” noted the department.

The IMD pointed out that inland regions like Dahod reported much lower humidity at 51 percent, leading to drier conditions, while cities such as Ahmedabad, Bhuj, and Gandhinagar maintained moderate humidity levels, fluctuating between 64 percent and 78 percent.

“Today’s Weather Snapshot (Reported at 0830 IST) revealed Rajkot as the hottest city, closely followed by Ahmedabad, Bhuj, and Amreli. No significant rainfall was recorded across the state, and dry conditions are expected to persist in the near future,” stated the department.

Moreover, the absence of rain coupled with the forecasted increase in temperatures suggests that residents should prepare for further extreme conditions in the following days.

The IMD has urged individuals to take necessary precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid prolonged sun exposure during peak hours to lessen the impact of the ongoing heat.

On Friday, the IMD reported that numerous regions within the state experienced temperatures surpassing 40 degrees Celsius, with cities including Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Bhuj, and Gandhinagar facing intense heat.
