The state government has established the MSP for chickpeas at Rs 5,650 per quintal and mustard at Rs 5,950 per quintal for the 2024-25 season.
Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel highlighted that the government is devoted to ensuring that farmers receive equitable prices for their crops, thereby bolstering their economic stability.
Officials indicated that procurement will take place at various designated centres starting March 14. Farmers are urged to fully leverage this program. The choice to procure these crops under the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) scheme was made to protect farmers from the volatility of market prices.
The state government is unwavering in its commitment to support agricultural communities through timely interventions and policy initiatives. During the 2022-23 season, Gujarat reported the procurement of 1.1 million tonnes of wheat under the MSP scheme.
In a similar vein, significant quantities of paddy were procured through various centres. The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and the Gujarat State Co-operative Marketing Federation are the principal agencies overseeing MSP procurement in the state.
These organizations are established at numerous centres across both rural and urban areas for the convenience of farmers. The state government consistently strives to ensure that MSP procurement is accessible to every farmer, particularly small and marginal farmers. In the 2021-22 procurement season, Gujarat acquired over 1.5 million tonnes of wheat and rice under the MSP scheme.
The online registration for MSP procurement via e-Gram centres and the NAFED portal started in 2022, enhancing accessibility for farmers. This system provides quicker registration and better oversight of the procurement process.
Over the years, Gujarat has witnessed a progressive increase in the number of crops eligible for MSP procurement, as well as a growing number of farmers engaging in the scheme.
In 2022-23 alone, the state procured a substantial amount of pulses, including chickpeas and moong at MSP.
