Has Gujarat Surpassed 5 Lakh Rooftop Solar Installations to Maintain Its Top Position?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Gandhinagar, Dec 24 (NationPress) Gujarat has reached a significant milestone in renewable energy by deploying more than 5 lakh rooftop solar systems, resulting in an overall installed capacity of 1,879 megawatts.
This pivotal accomplishment, achieved under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojna, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlights Gujarat's forefront position in rooftop solar technology and will be a major feature at the forthcoming Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC) in Rajkot.
Moreover, the state has cumulatively put in place over 11 lakh solar rooftops through various initiatives, reinforcing its status as the leading state in renewable energy within the country.
Gujarat firmly retains the No. 1 rank in rooftop solar installations throughout India, reaffirming its pioneering role in the renewable energy sector. It has successfully achieved half of its ambitious goal of installing 10 lakh residential rooftop solar systems by March 2027, marking a notable progress in its clean energy venture.
Residential users have benefitted from subsidies totaling Rs 3,778 crore under the program, enhancing the accessibility and affordability of rooftop solar, and further solidifying Gujarat's status as a trailblazer in sustainable energy.
Additionally, the state government has rolled out several user-friendly initiatives to ease the transition to rooftop solar.
The government offers Rs 2,950 in assistance for regulatory fees concerning systems up to 6 kW, has eliminated network strengthening fees for this category, and has waived the need for net metering agreements.
Furthermore, there is no load cap for residential solar installations, allowing households to sell excess electricity, and there are no banking fees for residential users.
To promote adoption further, enticing subsidy options are available: Rs 30,000 per kW for systems up to 2 kW, Rs 18,000 per kW for systems from 2 kW to 3 kW, and a maximum subsidy of Rs 78,000 for systems exceeding 3 kW.
These innovations have made rooftop solar installations increasingly accessible, economical, and user-friendly for the residents of Gujarat.
Gujarat's Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel commented on this milestone, stating, “The present era is characterized by solar, wind, and hybrid renewable energy, along with green growth driven by green hydrogen. We have long envisioned and prepared for this transition, and today the state plays a vital role in India’s overall renewable energy capacity. Specifically, Gujarat leads the nation in the solar rooftop initiative, setting standards for sustainable advancement. This accomplishment has been made possible through the visionary support of PM Modi, whose dedication to renewable energy and sustainable development has empowered Gujarat to actualize its vision.”
At the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference scheduled in Rajkot from January 10, success stories from rooftop solar initiatives will be highlighted. These narratives will illustrate how the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojna is transforming lives and empowering citizens.
