Gandhinagar, Nov 10 (NationPress) Gujarat's Health Minister Praful Pansheriya announced on Monday that in the last 11 years, an impressive total of over 15.89 crore children in the state have benefited from complimentary health screenings through the School Health–Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (SH-RBSK).
Initiated in 2014-15, this program has rendered specialized medical treatment to more than 2.18 lakh children, encompassing intricate procedures like 1.67 lakh heart surgeries, upwards of 20,000 kidney treatments, 11,000 cancer treatments, 206 kidney transplants, 37 liver transplants, 211 bone marrow transplants, and 3,260 cochlear implants, all provided at no cost.
The Minister highlighted that the SH-RBSK program, executed under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, seeks to cultivate a healthier future generation by delivering comprehensive and technologically advanced healthcare to every child, from newborns to 18-year-olds.
This initiative encompasses children enrolled in anganwadis, primary, secondary, and higher secondary educational institutions, as well as those who are out of school, offering regular health evaluations, early diagnoses, and prompt treatments without imposing any financial strain on families.
Currently, 992 mobile health teams operate throughout the state, each consisting of two AYUSH medical officers, a pharmacist, and an auxiliary nurse-midwife, ensuring that healthcare reaches children in every part of Gujarat.
Moreover, newborns are assessed for birth defects utilizing 4D technology at all delivery locations.
The program also tackles an extensive range of health issues, including anaemia, malnutrition, vision and hearing impairments, dental and skin ailments, cardiac anomalies, learning disabilities, and behavioral concerns, while also offering counseling, nutrition, and hygiene education.
Minister Pansheriya added that approximately 1.89 crore children are screened annually, and those in need of further treatment are referred to primary health centers, community health centers, district hospitals, medical colleges, or super-specialty hospitals, ensuring a smooth referral and care process.
The state has established 28 District Early Intervention Centres for diagnosis and follow-up care.
The SH-RBSK program is integrated with the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Teko Portal, making each child's health record digitally available.
Emphasizing the state government's inclusive strategy, the Minister remarked that children who have undergone cochlear implant surgeries receive a complimentary second processor to guarantee ongoing hearing assistance.
In conclusion, the School Health-Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram signifies a comprehensive and forward-looking model of child healthcare, dedicated to nurturing a robust, healthy, and empowered generation in Gujarat.
