Gandhinagar, Sep 15 (NationPress) The Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST), operating under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat, is set to host a dedicated awareness programme in honor of World Ozone Day on September 16, 2025, at the Government Science College, Sector-15, Gandhinagar.
More than 200 students are anticipated to engage in this event, which aims to emphasize the critical need to safeguard the ozone layer and encourage practices that promote environmental sustainability.
World Ozone Day celebrates the 1987 Montreal Protocol, a groundbreaking international agreement that effectively eliminated the production and use of substances harmful to the ozone layer, such as CFCs, thereby protecting life on our planet.
The programme will kick off at 9:30 a.m. and will feature interactive sessions, expert talks, and student-led activities that delve into the significance of the ozone layer, its connection to climate stability, and environmentally friendly practices.
Notable speakers include Dr. D.P. Patel, Principal of Government Science College, Gandhinagar; Dr. Sanjay Thakkar, Principal of M.N. Shukla College, Ahmedabad; Dr. S. Ramachandran, Senior Scientist at Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad; and Dr. Narottam Sahoo, Advisor and Member Secretary of GUJCOST.
To add a creative element, students from M.N. Shukla College will present a play titled “Hole Story,” which illustrates the causes and consequences of ozone depletion. An Ozone Awareness Quiz will also be held.
At the conclusion of the event, all attendees will participate in an “Ozone Pledge” to commit to eco-friendly practices, minimize ozone-depleting substances, and spread awareness in their communities.
The programme will also be broadcast live to all District Community Science Centres in Gujarat and allied Science & Technology Councils across India, ensuring extensive outreach.
According to GUJCOST, this initiative reinforces its dedication to nurturing a scientific mindset and motivating the youth to take action towards environmental protection and a sustainable future.
The Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST) functions as the primary agency for promoting science, technology, and innovation in Gujarat, advising the government on S&T policies, and enhancing scientific literacy through various initiatives.
