Gurdeep Singh Remembers His Uncle: A Devoted Family Man

Kolkata, Dec 27 (NationPress) The late former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, was a genuine family-oriented individual, and even while serving as the head of the nation, he maintained a friendly relationship with his relatives, shared Gurdeep Singh, the nephew of the esteemed leader.

Gurdeep Singh resides in Kolkata with his 85-year-old mother, Govind Kaur, who is Dr. Manmohan Singh's younger sister.

“He was my maternal uncle and my mother’s older brother. Our bond with him was as natural and friendly as any family relationship, even while he held significant positions, including that of the Prime Minister of India,” Gurdeep Singh stated during an interview with IANS.

He noted that despite his hectic schedule, the former Prime Minister consistently stayed connected with them. “My father was diagnosed with an illness in 2004. During that time, my uncle regularly called me to inquire about my father's health, despite his demanding responsibilities. Following my father's passing, he promptly traveled to Kolkata to support us, even though he was serving as the Prime Minister,” Gurdeep Singh reminisced.

He emphasized that family matters were of great importance to Dr. Singh, even while in office. Gurdeep Singh fondly remembered a touching moment when the former Prime Minister video-called his mother from New Delhi.

“In September of this year, I visited him in New Delhi and requested him to video call my mother. That moment was truly nostalgic,” Gurdeep Singh recalled.

He mentioned that several family members had already made their way to Delhi from Kolkata. “My mother was also eager to go, but her health conditions do not permit travel. I will be heading to New Delhi on Saturday morning,” concluded Gurdeep Singh.
