Punjab CM Remembers Dr Singh: A National Loss

Chandigarh, Dec 27 (NationPress) Punjab's Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed profound sadness on Friday regarding the passing of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, remarking that his departure represents a tremendous loss to the nation and that his absence will be deeply felt by the people of India.
The Chief Minister noted that during the 1990s, Dr Singh played a crucial role in revitalizing India’s struggling economy and establishing its economic identity on the global stage. “We pray to the almighty to grant peace to the departed soul and provide strength to his family and admirers to endure this loss,” he articulated in a statement.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema also conveyed his heartfelt condolences over Dr Singh’s demise, describing him as a remarkable economist and a son of Punjab. “He was a genuinely kind person. Today, the nation mourns the loss of a significant economist and an extraordinary individual. His service to the country in numerous important roles is commendable. His departure is indeed a tragic loss for all of us,” he added.
Additionally, Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains and Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha paid their respects by laying floral tributes at his body in New Delhi.
Bains lauded Dr Singh's exceptional contributions to India’s economic progress, highlighting his skillful navigation through challenging economic times and setting the nation on a path toward advancement.
He further admired Dr Singh's qualities of humility, honesty, simplicity, and competence, which will continue to motivate future generations.
Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan also expressed sorrow in a statement. He paid tribute to Dr Singh, describing him as a remarkable politician, visionary economist, and esteemed educationist who served as Prime Minister for a decade. He remarked that the nation has lost a great leader.
The state funeral for the former Prime Minister is set for Saturday, and prior to that, his body will be available for public viewing at the All India Congress Committee office in Delhi.
The cremation will occur near Rajghat in the afternoon, at a site designated for the last rites of Prime Ministers.
