Punjab Congress Proposes Bharat Ratna for Dr. Manmohan Singh

Chandigarh, Jan 5 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly and Congress representative, Partap Singh Bajwa, has reached out to every political faction in the state Assembly, calling for a united effort to honour former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh by advocating for his nomination for the Bharat Ratna, the pinnacle of civilian awards in India.

In his appeal, Bajwa directed his message to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Speaker Kultar Singh Sadhwan, and other notable figures, including Manpreet Singh Ayali from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Ashwani Sharma of the BJP, and Nachhatar Pal from the BSP, suggesting a collaborative resolution within the Assembly to acknowledge Dr. Singh’s “extraordinary contributions to the nation and his profound ties to Punjab”.

Bajwa’s correspondence underscores Dr. Singh’s pivotal role as the mastermind behind India’s economic liberalization in 1991, which not only rejuvenated the Indian economy but also established the country as a formidable player in the global economic arena.

During his tenure as Prime Minister, Dr. Singh consistently focused on inclusive growth, economic stability, and social justice, positively affecting millions across the country.

“Dr. Manmohan Singh is a proud son of Punjab, and his journey is an inspiration to all,” Bajwa stated.

“Having been born in Punjab, his life embodies resilience, humility, and selfless service. He has instilled pride in our state and has tackled critical challenges in agriculture, rural development, and education, leaving an enduring legacy for Punjab and the entire nation.”

Alongside the resolution, Bajwa has suggested assembling an all-party delegation to approach Prime Minister Narendra Modi and advocate for this recognition.

He stressed that this collaborative effort would convey a powerful message of harmony across political divides, celebrating Dr. Singh’s statesmanship and dedication to public service.

“This initiative transcends merely honouring an exceptional individual; it is a reaffirmation of our united commitment to democracy, integrity, and excellence in public service,” Bajwa added.

Bajwa remarked that Dr. Singh's calm disposition, intellectual prowess, and bipartisan nature render him a unifying figure in Indian politics.

“Bestowing the Bharat Ratna upon him would not only inspire future generations but also acknowledge his remarkable contributions to India’s development and global standing,” he concluded.
