Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to Deliver Keynote Speech at UN for World Meditation Day on December 21

Bengaluru, Dec 18 (NationPress) Renowned global spiritual figure and humanitarian, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, is set to conduct a live World Meditation on Saturday, in light of the unanimous passage of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution that designates December 21 as World Meditation Day.

This landmark occasion establishes a yearly global observance of meditation, acknowledging its transformative effects on both mental and physical well-being, as well as its potential to promote peace and unity, according to an official announcement from the Art of Living on Wednesday.

The Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York will commemorate the inaugural World Meditation Day at the UN headquarters on December 20.

The significant event at the UN will feature a keynote address by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. This momentous gathering, themed ‘Meditation for Global Peace and Harmony,’ will celebrate the First World Meditation Day.

“The acknowledgment of meditation by the United Nations is a remarkable advancement,” expressed Gurudev. “Meditation nourishes the spirit, soothes the mind, and provides answers to contemporary issues,” he further stated.

Gurudev will address esteemed global figures, including senior UN officials, diplomats, and international delegates, emphasizing meditation’s essential role in promoting peace and unity.

On December 21, Gurudev will host a global livestream, connecting millions in meditation to honor the Winter Solstice — a significant period for introspection and rejuvenation.

The unanimous endorsement of World Meditation Day by the UN General Assembly stands as a strong recognition of meditation’s ability to tackle the challenges of contemporary life — from escalating stress and violence to the deterioration of trust and connection in our society.

Having devoted 43 years to disseminating the advantages of meditation across 180 countries, Gurudev believes it is the most powerful instrument for fostering mental clarity, emotional strength, and societal harmony.

Gurudev has mediated and advanced peace efforts in conflict-ridden areas such as Sri Lanka, Iraq, Venezuela, and Colombia, where he is recognized for his crucial role in concluding the 52-year-long conflict between FARC and the Colombian government, as stated by the Art of Living on Wednesday.
