Gurugram, Feb 26 (NationPress) A dedicated team from the Gurugram Police has apprehended two suspects involved in defrauding individuals under the guise of assisting with loan recoveries from an online Chinese application and various loan platforms.

According to an official, the perpetrators employed a deceptive tactic where they altered images of their victims to include obscene content, which they then distributed to the victims' friends and family via WhatsApp.

“The offenders would subsequently send coercive messages through WhatsApp to extort additional funds from the victims,” the official reported.

During recent operations, the police successfully detained the suspects, named Mohit and Vicky, who reside in Maruti Kunj, Bhondsi Gurugram, on Wednesday.

The police initiative led to the filing of charges against the suspects under Section 308(2), 351(2), and 61(2) BNS at the Cyber Crime East Police Station, Gurugram.

Investigations revealed that the suspects were obtaining data and images of loan applicants for the purpose of loan recoveries through their accomplices.

“They manipulated the victims’ images, creating inappropriate content to extort further payments even after the victims had settled their loans. There are six additional reported cases of cyber fraud associated with these suspects across various states,” stated Sandeep Kumar, spokesperson for the Gurugram police.

The police have seized five mobile devices and three laptops utilized in the commission of these crimes from the suspects' possession.

The official emphasized that, given the rise in cyber crimes, the Gurugram Police is acting swiftly to confront and apprehend cyber criminals.

“The Gurugram Police is committed to curbing the surge in cybercrime and bringing offenders to justice,” he added.

Previously, the Gurugram Police dismantled a fraudulent call center, resulting in the arrest of 38 individuals, including nine women, for scamming victims using a Chinese application. The authorities recovered Rs 1.70 lakh, alongside 27 laptops and 44 mobile phones from the suspects.
