Bhopal, April 10 (NationPress) Two firemen sustained injuries and a three-story building was completely destroyed in a significant fire that ignited in the early hours of Thursday in Gwalior. The situation was exacerbated by the explosion of five LPG cylinders stored within the factory.

The fire started between 2:30 and 3:00 am on Thursday, in the Kalan Gopal multi-story building located in Khasgi Bazar, Gwalior, falling under the jurisdiction of the Janakganj Police Station.

As reported by the police, the fire originated in a thread-making factory located in the basement of the three-story building.

Fueled by the highly combustible materials used in thread production, the fire rapidly escalated and spread to five apartments on the second and third floors.

Upon noticing the flames, the residents of the affected apartments evacuated the building without delay and alerted the police and fire department for help.

“The fire is now under control and no lives were lost in the incident. A total of seven families reside in the building,” stated Manish Yadav, Deputy Superintendent of Police, in a conversation with IANS.

He added that two firefighters, identified as Purushottam and Lokendra, suffered burn injuries while attempting to manage the fire, which intensified due to the explosions of the five LPG cylinders.

Both injured firefighters have been hospitalized, and investigations are currently underway to assess the legality of the factory's operations and the manner in which materials were stored.

Authorities are examining whether the incident was caused by a short circuit or other factors.

As the fire brigade worked to combat the flames, five gas cylinders exploded sequentially. Reinforcements, including the Air Force fire brigade, were summoned to assist in extinguishing the overwhelming blaze.

By mid-morning, the fire was fully under control.

Residents recalled noticing the fire when smoke began to fill their apartments and flames erupted from the factory below, leading to a frantic scene as they hurried downstairs to safety.

By the time emergency responders arrived, the fire had already spread to the upper floors, requiring a coordinated response to contain it.

Firefighters faced the danger of explosions as they entered the factory to spray water in an effort to suppress the flames.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing as authorities analyze the contributing factors that led to the fire.
