New Delhi, Sep 24 (NationPress) Gyanesh Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), has been awarded the prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award (DAA) 2025 by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, which is the highest honor the institute bestows upon its alumni.
In an official correspondence, Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur, conveyed the news to Kumar, emphasizing that this recognition highlights his “exceptional merit” and “exemplary professional accomplishments.” Kumar, who completed his degree in civil engineering at IIT Kanpur during the 1980s, currently leads the Election Commission of India.
“The Distinguished Alumni Award (DAA) is IIT Kanpur's highest accolade for alumni in acknowledgment of their remarkable achievements. I am pleased to inform you that the Board of Governors of IIT Kanpur has unanimously decided to present you with the Distinguished Alumni Award (DAA) for 2025,” Agrawal stated in the letter addressed to the CEC on September 23.

Prof. Amey Karkare, Dean of Resources and Alumni, has been appointed as the event coordinator and will provide the CEC with the complete program schedule.
