Chandigarh, Jan 28 (NationPress) Following former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's allegations against the BJP-led Haryana government for purportedly 'contaminating' the Yamuna river, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini demanded an apology from Kejriwal. If he fails to comply, Saini warned of legal action for defamation.

Just a day prior, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and her Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI), claiming dangerously high ammonia levels in the water supplied from Haryana to Delhi.

Reports indicate that the ECI has instructed the Haryana government to provide a factual report by noon on Tuesday.

While campaigning in Delhi, AAP's national leader Kejriwal asserted that the BJP has committed an unprecedented act, stating that the residents of Delhi rely on water from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

“Water from Haryana flows into Delhi through the Yamuna. The BJP's Haryana administration has tainted the water in the Yamuna. Thankfully, the Delhi Jal Board acted promptly to prevent this contaminated water from entering Delhi, averting a potential disaster,” he remarked.

In response to Kejriwal’s claims, CM Saini accused him of habitually making unfounded allegations and deflecting blame for his own “ineptitude” in fulfilling promises.

“Kejriwal must apologize to the residents of both Delhi and Haryana, or he will face legal consequences for his unfounded accusations,” CM Saini stated.

He further criticized Kejriwal for inadequate water distribution planning, which has led to the consumption of polluted water by Delhi residents.

CM Saini held Kejriwal accountable for the systematic diversion of 28 drains into the Yamuna river. “The citizens of Delhi will respond to him in the upcoming Assembly elections... I challenge you (Kejriwal) to send your Chief Secretary, and I will have my Chief Secretary assess the water quality in Sonipat, where the Yamuna enters Delhi. He speaks of ammonia and claims water scarcity, but the real issue is in the distribution system,” CM Saini added.
