Chandigarh, March 7 (NationPress) Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatraya stated on Friday that the state government's policies are predominantly centered on the welfare of farmers by ensuring the procurement of all 24 crops at the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
The government has also put an end to the practice of ‘Abiyana’, which has been in existence since the British colonial period.
“To directly benefit farmers, a total of Rs 1,25,000 crore has been deposited into the bank accounts of 12 lakh farmers for crop purchases at MSP over the last nine seasons via the e-kharid portal,” the Governor mentioned during his customary address to the Vidhan Sabha, marking the start of the Budget Session here.
He noted that due to last year’s delayed monsoon, farmers had to utilize additional resources for sowing kharif crops.
“In order to provide relief, a bonus of Rs 1,345 crore has been allocated to farmers at a rate of Rs 2,000 per acre. This is the first instance where a government has extended financial support to farmers during the sowing period,” he added.
Historically, disputes have existed between landowners and farmers regarding land possession and compensation.
“During the previous session of this House, the notable achievement of implementing the Agricultural Land Lease Act was passed unanimously. Furthermore, farmer leaseholders occupying Shamlat land for 20 years have now been granted ownership rights,” the Governor stated.
He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to securing its rightful share of water from the Ravi-Beas rivers and completing the Sutlej-Yamuna Link Canal. He emphasized that continuous efforts are underway in this direction.
“Additionally, the state government is actively involved in constructing the Renuka, Kishau, and Lakhwar Vyasi dams on the upper reaches of the Yamuna river to ensure a consistent water supply from the Yamuna and its tributaries, Giri and Tons. Upon completion, these dams will provide Haryana with 47.81 percent of the total stored water,” he explained.
The Governor also mentioned that a memorandum of understanding has been signed with the Himachal Pradesh government for the construction of the Adi Badri Dam.
“This dam, being constructed by the Himachal Pradesh government, is anticipated to be completed by June 2027,” he noted.
Regarding law and order, Governor Dattatraya asserted that the situation remains peaceful and under control, with a prevailing atmosphere of communal harmony.
“In 2024, a total of 1,11,397 criminal cases were recorded in the state, which is 16,216 fewer than the previous year. This represents a 12.7 percent reduction in criminal cases compared to last year,” Dattatraya concluded.
