Haryana to Hold Three-Day Mourning for Former Chief Minister OP Chautala

Chandigarh, Dec 20 (NationPress) The Haryana government has officially declared a three-day state mourning period in response to the passing of former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala.
An official representative stated that during this mourning duration, the national flag will be displayed at half-mast on all government buildings throughout the state. Additionally, all state government activities will be suspended, and no official entertainment will occur during this time.
Furthermore, the spokesperson announced that December 21 will be observed as a public holiday in all state government offices to honor the late leader.
The state funeral is scheduled for December 21 at 3 p.m. at Teja Khera Farm in Sirsa.
Om Prakash Chautala, president of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and a five-time Chief Minister, significantly influenced Haryana's political landscape, particularly in rural regions with a strong Jat voter base. He passed away in Gurugram following a cardiac arrest.
At the age of 89, OP Chautala suffered a cardiac arrest at his residence and was quickly taken to Medanta Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Governor of Haryana, Bandaru Dattatraya, expressed his sorrow over the loss of the former Chief Minister.
In his message of condolence, Dattatraya referred to Chautala as a seasoned politician and a visionary leader who devoted his life to serving the people of Haryana.
“The contributions of Shri Om Prakash Chautala-ji towards the development of Haryana and his commitment to the welfare of its farmers will be cherished forever. His passing is a significant loss to the state and its citizens,” stated Dattatraya.
Recalling his personal interactions with Chautala, the Governor mentioned, “While I served as the Union Urban Development Minister, Chautala-ji was the Chief Minister of Haryana. He approached me concerning the development of the NCR.
“During the meetings of the NCR Development Board, Chautala-ji, who was also a member, shared his invaluable insights and vision for the comprehensive development of the region.”
