Gurugram, Jan 21 (NationPress) In order to adhere to the Haryana government's safe school vehicle policy, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) will soon initiate a campaign aimed at inspecting school vehicles, as stated by an administrative official.
Gurugram District Transport Officer and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Ravinder Kumar, emphasized on Monday that the Haryana government prioritizes the safety of school students.
"To ensure the secure operation of school buses, it is essential that drivers strictly adhere to traffic regulations and that school vehicles are maintained in optimal condition," he remarked.
The SDM mentioned that a minimum of four to five school buses will be checked on a daily basis.
If any vehicle is found to have faults, it will be issued a challan.
He also pointed out that school buses should operate at reduced speeds during foggy conditions and must be equipped with yellow lights.
Furthermore, buses should display information such as first aid kits, CCTV cameras, trained drivers and conductors, and helpline numbers.
Regular inspections of school vehicles are crucial, as the RTA has instructed schools to comply with all vehicle standards established by the state government under the 'Surakshit School Vahan Policy' within a period of 10 days.
"A campaign aimed at inspecting the vehicles of educational institutions in the district will commence from January 21. During this timeframe, the inspections will be conducted in accordance with the school vehicle policy," he added.
Kumar made it clear that schools must assume responsibility for the safe transportation of students, regardless of the transportation method used.
"In the event of an incident, schools should be held accountable. They must ensure the safety of student transportation, regardless of the mode used," he asserted.
"Drivers of school vehicles play a crucial role in managing and maintaining these vehicles. Although there have been ongoing awareness initiatives throughout the year, with a new academic session approaching in two months, many new drivers will be joining various schools. Therefore, the department aims to guarantee that all drivers are properly trained and comply with the Surakshit Vahan School policy," stated an RTA official.
