Gurugram, March 5 (NationPress) The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has formalized an agreement with Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) and Utkrisht Society for 'Safe Haryana' to further enhance the efficiency of traffic management and bolster safety on the city's roadways.

The primary goal of this initiative is to minimize or eliminate manual involvement in traffic enforcement and the challan process, thereby reducing traffic violations, incidents, and fatalities through the implementation of Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS). This will also strengthen the enforcement of traffic regulations and encourage a change in behavior among road users.

GMDA has successfully completed Phase 1 of the CCTV initiative, which involved the installation of 1200 cameras across 218 junctions in the Gurugram and Manesar regions. These camera feeds are continuously monitored by the Police Department for effective city surveillance and traffic regulation.

Additionally, MSIL will install another 400 CCTV cameras featuring ITMS technologies, which will include hardware and software for Red Light Violation Detection System (RLVDS), Speed Violation Detection System (SVDS), Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), helmet detection, wrong-side driving detection, and an Electronic Challan System at various junctions across the city. These systems will be integrated with the GMDA command and control center to streamline traffic monitoring.

Moreover, the Utkrisht Society for Safe Haryana, a non-profit initiative of the Haryana State Police, aims to enhance public-private partnerships focused on safety, with road safety as a significant emphasis.

The Haryana State Police is tasked with maintaining law and order throughout the city, including managing road traffic and enhancing road safety.

The Gurugram Police collaborates with GMDA, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), the Public Works Department of Haryana, and the National Highways Authority of India to facilitate traffic enforcement and gather data regarding road incidents within the city.

“GMDA, MSIL, and Utkrisht Society will jointly strive to enhance traffic management systems in Gurugram and elevate the safety standards on the city’s roads,” stated P.K. Aggrawal, Consultant of the Smart City Division at GMDA.
