Chennai, Nov 12 (NationPress) The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has issued a weather warning on Wednesday forecasting extensive rainfall in various regions of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal in the upcoming days, triggered by a developing low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.
The latest update from the RMC indicates that a low-pressure system is currently situated over the southwestern Bay of Bengal and adjacent southeastern areas, affecting weather patterns across the southern peninsula.
This weather disturbance is likely to result in moderate to heavy rain, along with thunderstorms and lightning in certain areas of Tamil Nadu, especially in the southern and delta regions.
From November 13 to 17, the Met Department predicts sporadic light to moderate rainfall across several districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The delta area, including Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai, as well as Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, and Kallakurichi, may experience heavy rain in isolated spots during this timeframe.
On November 18, rainfall activity is anticipated to escalate slightly, with light to moderate rain expected over many regions in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
The RMC bulletin also warns that Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukottai, and Ramanathapuram districts, along with Karaikal, could face heavy rainfall at one or two locations.
The Weather Department has advised fishermen to exercise caution and refrain from heading out to sea in the coming days, as the developing system may lead to turbulent sea conditions and strong winds along the coast.
Authorities are urged to remain vigilant, particularly in the southern coastal districts, where isolated heavy rainfall could result in waterlogging, flooding of low-lying areas, and disruptions in road traffic.
Meteorologists indicate that further updates will depend on the progression of the low-pressure system, which could intensify as it moves westward over the Bay of Bengal.
