Chennai, Oct 6 (NationPress) The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued a warning for significant rainfall on Monday, particularly in the Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore, and Kallakurichi districts. This weather forecast is a result of ongoing weather systems affecting Tamil Nadu and nearby southern regions.
The RMC indicated that a low-pressure system is currently situated over parts of Tamil Nadu and the southern peninsula, which is likely to increase the chances of intense rain along with thunderstorms and lightning.
The department has also cautioned that the unstable weather conditions may persist for the next three days, with moderate rainfall and thunderstorms expected in various regions of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal until October 9.
During the 24 hours leading up to Monday morning, Egumalai in Madurai district recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 13 cm. Other significant rainfall measurements include Krishnagiri (12 cm), Namakkal (11 cm), Edappadi in Salem (10 cm), Sankari Durg in Salem (7 cm), and Karuppanadhi Dam in Tenkasi (6 cm).
The widespread rains over the weekend have provided relief in certain areas, but have also led to waterlogging and traffic disruptions in low-lying regions.
The weather bureau predicts that Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, and Tirupattur districts may witness heavy rain on Tuesday.
Chennai and its surrounding areas can anticipate partly cloudy skies today, with light to moderate rainfall and occasional thunderstorms in selected locales.
Despite the rain, temperatures throughout Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are projected to stay above normal by as much as 3 degrees Celsius until October 9.
Meteorologists have advised residents to remain vigilant for sudden downpours, particularly in urban areas prone to flooding. Authorities have urged individuals in regions forecasted for heavy rain to limit unnecessary travel, stay updated on weather conditions, and proceed with caution regarding waterlogged roads and open drains.
Farmers and fishermen are encouraged to stay informed with advisories, while local authorities are advised to prepare for potential water stagnation. The RMC has committed to closely monitoring the evolving weather patterns and providing timely updates as the northeast monsoon gradually approaches.
