Kolkata, Aug 9 (NationPress) The Meteorological Department announced on Saturday that intense rainfall is expected in various regions of West Bengal until August 13.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore, Kolkata, has forecasted that heavy rain will persist in the districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar in northern Bengal until August 13.
The weather department noted that the monsoon axis is extending over Firozpur, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Kheri, Patna, Bankura, and Digha, reaching into the northeastern Bay of Bengal. Additionally, there is a cyclonic circulation affecting the coasts of Bangladesh and West Bengal. These weather systems will lead to rain across the state for the upcoming days.
In southern Bengal, heavy rainfall is anticipated in Bankura, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Birbhum, West Midnapore, and South 24 Parganas, with isolated very heavy rain in Purulia.
A Met department official stated, "While the intensity of rain has diminished in southern Bengal, precipitation will persist in northern districts. Multiple rain warnings have been issued accordingly."
An orange alert for rain has been issued for the districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, and Alipurduar for August 9 and 12, with further alerts in Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar on August 13. Yellow alerts are in effect throughout the week for Malda, Cooch Behar, North Dinajpur, and South Dinajpur.
Most districts in southern Bengal, including Kolkata, Howrah, and Bankura, are also under a yellow alert on August 9 and 10. An orange alert is issued for Purulia on these dates.
Despite a potential slight decrease in rainfall in several southern districts, light to moderate rain will persist.
Rainfall could be accompanied by gusty winds reaching up to 40 kilometers per hour this Saturday. Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into the sea off the West Bengal-Odisha coast.
Additionally, light to moderate rain is anticipated in Kolkata over the next few days, with a maximum temperature recorded at 29.2 degrees Celsius, which is 2.8 degrees Celsius below normal, and a minimum temperature of 25.7 degrees Celsius, 0.8 degrees Celsius below normal.
