As per the Regional Meteorological Centre located in Alipore, Kolkata, "Significant rainfall is anticipated in the districts of Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar this Saturday and Sunday, prompting the issuance of a red alert."
Additionally, an orange alert for rain has been declared across various districts in North Bengal, such as Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Cooch Behar, effective until Monday. Continuous heavy rainfall is expected in these regions from Tuesday to Friday.
The cyclonic circulation that had previously induced heavy rain in South Bengal has now shifted, providing some relief from the relentless downpour on Saturday.
The weather bureau predicts isolated thunderstorms in South Bengal and in Kolkata.
"Scattered rain along with thundershowers may affect the southern districts and Kolkata throughout the week. However, heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted for the northern districts of Bengal, which may lead to river overflow," a meteorological officer stated.
Furthermore, heavy rain is anticipated again in Cooch Behar, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Malda districts starting Thursday. Heavy rain is expected in North Dinajpur on Saturday and Sunday, with Malda also experiencing rainfall on Sunday.
On Sunday, scattered rain and thundershowers will persist in districts such as Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Jhargram, and Bankura.
Heavy rain could again impact Murshidabad, Nadia, and North 24 Parganas districts by the end of next week.
Next week, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected across all southern districts of Bengal.
On Saturday, the minimum temperature in Kolkata was recorded at 26.8 degrees Celsius, slightly above the normal range. The maximum temperature in the city on Friday was 30.8 degrees Celsius, which is 1.7 degrees below normal.
