Kolkata, Sep 17 (NationPress) The Regional Meteorological Centre has announced an orange alert for substantial rainfall in multiple districts of West Bengal over the coming days.
The meteorological department forecasts that thunderstorms are likely to affect South Bengal, including Kolkata, from Wednesday through Friday. Heavy rainfall, along with thunderstorms, is expected in the districts of East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Bankura, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Purulia. Consequently, an orange alert has been declared for these areas.
On Saturday, scattered thunderstorms could impact all districts across South Bengal.
A meteorological department official stated, "There is a cyclonic circulation over East Bihar and nearby regions, along with another system over the southeast Bay of Bengal. Additionally, there are two more such systems near northeast Bangladesh and central Assam. This is causing moisture to flow in from the Bay of Bengal, leading to rainfall in South Bengal districts, with the possibility of heavy downpours in some locations."
While the temperature may slightly drop due to rainfall, high humidity will likely create discomfort.
Furthermore, heavy rainfall is anticipated in north Bengal this week, particularly in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and North Dinajpur districts starting Wednesday. An orange alert has also been issued for these six districts.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected in South Dinajpur and Malda districts. Heavy rain is predicted in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar on Thursday, with thunderstorms likely affecting North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Malda on Friday.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperature recorded in Kolkata on Wednesday was 26.6 degrees Celsius, which is 0.2 degrees above normal. The maximum temperature in the city on Tuesday reached 31.1 degrees Celsius, 1.7 degrees below normal.
