Belagavi (Karnataka), Jan 15 (NationPress) The incident involving Minister for Women and Child Welfare Laxmi Hebbalkar and her brother Congress MLC Channaraj Hattiholi, who narrowly escaped a car accident recently, has taken a new turn, as her driver has filed a hit-and-run complaint, as confirmed by police sources on Wednesday.

The complaint has been registered at the Kittur police station.

The minister's official driver reported that the accident occurred due to reckless driving by the driver of a container truck.

Initially, the family of Minister Hebbalkar mentioned that the car driver lost control while trying to avoid a dog and subsequently crashed into a tree.

According to the complaint, while driving on National Highway 48 near Ambadagatti Cross in Belagavi, a container truck in the front lane shifted to the left without signaling.

The driver further explained that despite taking evasive maneuvers to avoid a collision, the truck brushed against the car.

He claimed that as a result, he lost control of the vehicle, which veered onto the service road and later struck a tree.

The driver noted that the container truck driver failed to stop and fled the scene.

The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

When inquired about the situation, Home Minister G. Parameshwara mentioned on Wednesday in Bengaluru that he had not gathered details about the accident involving the minister, adding, “I have only checked on her health thus far.”

Both the minister and her brother sustained injuries during the car accident on Tuesday, leading to Hebbalkar being admitted to the hospital.

The incident occurred in Ambadagatti village within the Belagavi district. Hebbalkar, her brother Hattiholi, and a gunman were all passengers in the same vehicle.

Initial reports suggested that the vehicle collided with a tree after attempting to avoid hitting a dog, resulting in damage to the front of the vehicle.

Hospital sources revealed that Hebbalkar has sustained fractures in her L1 and L4 vertebrae and also incurred an injury to her neck.

According to hospital sources, Hebbalkar is recovering and responding positively to treatment.

Recently, Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar was in the spotlight regarding a derogatory remarks controversy involving C.T. Ravi, for which she had filed a police complaint against the BJP MLC.

A video surfaced showing Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar challenging MLC Ravi in the Assembly, questioning how he could use derogatory language against her when he presumably has a mother, sister, and wife at home.
